PBL held their annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday December the 9th.
As usual so many of the staff and volunteers gave up their time on Friday to prepare the Day unit which looked wonderfully festive with tables laden with goodies ready to open the following day.
Saturday arrived and there was a queue waiting for the doors to open at 2pm and welcome them into the warmth and happiness inside.
Staff and helpers were at their stations ready to start selling all the wonderful gifts – cards, bunting , baby clothes, and bags, many of which had been hand made by the staff .
The Staff ran a wonderful raffle and also an adult and junior Tombola which was very popular. – well done ladies ( and daughters and boyfriends!!)
Other volunteers – (and mothers) served tea and coffee with mince pies.
I had a lovely time, browsing the stalls, and bought a beautiful hand made Bird House to give to my nephew, and two cheeky handmade Christmas Stockings , so I had to get more things to fill them!!!
It is such a lovely time and wonderful to see patients and relatives enjoying themselves as well.
Its all in aid of funds for presents and goodies for them at Christmas
WELL DONE everyone – particularly Angela Beard and Caroline Coppings.
Their wonderful efforts raised an amazing £1799.40.
Priscilla Bacon Lodge was the charity chosen by the Norwich Philharmonic for their Family Christmas Concert this year.
It was wonderful evening full of beautiful music and fun events. We were entertained by The Philharmonic choir, ably conducted by David Dunnett, who were joined by the Cawston Brass Band with their leader Leigh Sharpe who entertained us with a few ( bad) Christmas jokes.!! And the magical Junior Choir and Chamber Choir and Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians conducted by Laura Morgan, Rosamund Walton and accompanied by Karen Smith.
The whole concert was accompanied joyously by that wonderful organist Tim Patient who also played an organ solo.
It was a crisp clear night and the concert as usual was a sell out. People were incredibly generous as they threw lots of money into our buckets.
Philip Norton , our Chair, gave a lovely talk about the work and future of PBL just after the interval mentioning the work of PBL and the Support Group.
The Priscilla Bacon Lodge is a Specialist Palliative Care Centre offering symptom relief and emotional support through its 16 In Patient beds, Day care clinics and activities , and busy community team of Specialist Nurses. Recently the Care at Home team has also moved to the Lodge.
The Support Group who help to support the Bereavement and complimentary therapies services, was established nearly 40 years ago to provide those extras the NHS can’t ,but which, none the less , are important at the most difficult point in life.
The Support Group is able to respond quickly and funds taxis and sometimes ambulances to help patients home for those last precious hours. It also provides funds for staff training and some specialist equipment.
We are also pleased to be supporting the initiative for the reprovision of Specialist Palliative Care for people in Norfolk through the New Priscilla Bacon Lodge Hospice.
The collection made £1536.01. for us.
Thank you to The Norwich PHIL and everyone involved in the playing, singing, organizing and attending.
